Shaffer Chimere Smith, nascut el 18 d'octubre de 1979 a Camden (Arkansas), (encara que va crèixer a Las Vegas, Nevada), és un cantant de R&B i compositor de cançons.
És més conegut per Ne-Yo. Actualment pertany a Def Jam Record.
Va aconseguir molt reconeixement després d'escriure el tema de "Let me love you" de Mario, va ser un èxit a finals de 2004 i principis de 2005.
Va començar la seva pròpia carrera professional al 2005 amb el seu àlbum "In my own words" llançant a principis de 2006 i debutant 1 a Billboard 200.
Durant aquest període, el segon single del disc, "So Sick" (produït per Stargate), va arribar al lloc més alt de Billboart Hot 100. És descendent afroamericà, portariqueny i xino.
El seu segon disc va ser titulat "Because of you" amb més influència Soul que amb R&B. El 16 de Septembre del 2008, va publicar el seu tercer disc, "Year of the gentleman" on el primer single es diu "Closer", editat per Def Jam Recordings.
En aquell mateix any, Ne-Yo va realitzar per al nou disc de retrobar-se del grup juvenil de finals dels 80 "Kids on the block", una cançó anomenada "Single", la qual es va posicionar ràpidament a la llista Billboard el mateix any.
Al 2009 va composar la fantàstica cançó "Never know I needed" que dona vida a la pel·lícula "La princesa y el sapo".
